In the News…
With many thanks to Connie Edwards, our Main Campus location received an internal facelift this summer. The entire school was repainted, which involved moving every book and piece of furniture in the building. Many thanks to our student volunteers in particular who gave up time to help with that effort: Emmy Bray, Katelyn Robinson, and Sue Wilson. Thank you!
Congratulations to our three students completing woodworking credit this summer. Kathleen Robinson and Hannah Bray both completed wood carving as part of their course. Emmy Bray did this in addition to designing, drafting, and building the new book nook in the Main Campus building. Stop by and test it out!
German Lessons Added to Toddler and Preschool Programs
While Stonecreek offers Spanish at all levels of the curriculum and age, it is our belief that knowing more languages is better. We also know that children pick up and learn new languages most easily when they are young. So, this fall Stonecreek will begin having German and Spanish lessons for both the toddler and preschool levels.
Stonecreek Rising Junior Selected for HOBY Leadership Conference
Rising Junior Emmy Bray was recently selected to represent Stonecreek at the HOBY Leadership Conference. She participated along with students from across the state in the 3 day leadership sessions at Troy University.
Montessori Model UN Trainee
Rising freshman Hannah Bray recently traveled to New York City for a 2 day conference to become part of the volunteer group that helps run the Montessori Model UN for middle school students every year. Only students who have participated in the event themselves are eligible for such a role. Hannah’s team’s motion passed unanimously last year when she attended. Hannah’s intense 2-day workshop covered all aspects of how to help mentor new students on real-world topics the UN is currently working to improve. She will find out her role for next spring’s session later on this fall.
Stonecreek at Riverchase Now Open
Our toddler and preschool students got to move into their spacious building with large playgrounds in February 2015! Thanks to our playground committee (Wendy Poctazek), raking, climbing, and gardening have never been so much fun.
As we enter our 4th year, Stonecreek already has 2 graduating classes. We are very proud of our four graduating seniors: John Bruno, Bradley Edwards, Evan Robinson, and Harry Blount. Their academic success and extracurricular activities have led to a number of post-secondary activities and offers. Our seniors have been accepted to Auburn University, University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), and Birmingham Southern, among others.
Our graduates have thus far earned $70,000 in merit scholarships! Congratulations to our first alumni!
We have come to the end of a yet another very eventful robotics season for our award winning high school robotics teams – team #7022, the Robostangs. Our team participated in two regional qualifiers against teams from Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee.
What is perhaps most remarkable, in addition to the number of awards earned, is that they have won in multiple categories – twice for their programming skills, once for CAD software designs, and once for outreach to the local community. This goes with their multiple awards won for on-field performance as well which is a combination of their engineering, game strategy, and execution via team driving in live matches. Well done Robostangs!

Congratulations also to high school student Katelyn Robinson who was nominated for the 2015 Dean’s List award. She made it to the Dean’s List Semi-Finals in Georgia before then being selected as one of only 101 Dean’s Lists Finalists who were honored at the FTC World Championships in St. Louis. Katelyn was the only student from the state of Alabama listed on the Dean’s List webpage. Read here to learn more.
Congratulations to Stonecreek middle school student Hannah Bray for her continued award winning stories! Hannah submitted her recent work to the Scholastic Art & Writing Competition – Southeastern Region Science Fiction / Fantasy Division. Her story was selected for honors from among over 300,000 submissions nationwide; Hannah earned a Silver Key Award this year. Last year, she earned a Gold Key and Katie Maxfield earned Honorable Mention! As part of earning a Golden Key, Hannah’s story was considered for national level awards and she won a Gold Medal for her work, and was a participant in their ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City honoring recipients, where she got to hear speeches from noted celebrities such as Whoopi Goldberg!
EGGO My LEGO (Ellie, Cooper, Caleb, and Nour), the upper elementary and middle school robotics team, had yet another successful year in 2015-16! While still a small and young team, they took the 2nd Place Champion’s Award trophy for overall performance at the Central Alabama Regional Qualifier in November and advanced to the Alabama State Championship in January for the third year in a row. Out of over 80 teams in the state (by far the largest FIRST competition in the state), only the top 36 teams advance to the state level competition.
Stonecreek middle school student Hannah Bray earned first place for her award winning submission to the Fall 2014 Alabama State Poetry Society Poetry Contest! Hannah’s poem “Haven” won first place in the “Call and Response” category. The contest featured entries from across all ages and across the country, with winners in other categories from as far away as California!
The Brick Chicks (Autumn, Claire, Cate, Lily and Ava), Stonecreek’s Lower Elementary Robotics Team, took home two different awards this season. They won the Engineer’s Award at the Central Alabama Regional Qualifier, and the Picasso Award at the Alabama State Championship! It took both artwork and engineering to produce their moving globe model using only LEGO parts! Nice work!
