Graduation Requirements

sasa

To ensure the success of our students, Stonecreek Montessori Academy meets or exceeds the expectations for the Alabama state requirements for high school graduation. As such, Stonecreek currently offers two diploma levels: the High School Diploma and the Honors Diploma.

High School Diploma

For the High School Diploma, students are expected to complete 24 credits during their time in high school; 3 of these may be completed in 8th grade (only applicable for Spanish 1, Computer Applications, and Algebra/Geometry).  16 of these required 24 credits are in the required core areas of math, English, science, and social studies.  The other 8 credits come through other required courses and electives.

In English, students are expected to complete 4 years of composition and literature study.  In Math, students completing the High School Diploma must complete Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra II in addition to a math elective such as Math Applications.  In science, all students are required to take biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as an elective science.   For social science, all High School Diploma candidate students must take 4 years of history including world and US history.  All students are required to complete life skills courses, including health, applied math, and carer planning. Students must take at least 3 sequential years of a foreign language as well as complete one credit worth of fine arts.

Academic Honors Diploma

For the Stonecreek Honors Diploma, students are expected to complete 27 credits during their time in high school; 3 of these may be completed in 8th grade (only applicable for Spanish 1, Computer Applications, and Algebra/Geometry).  16 of these required 26 credits are in the required core areas of math, English, science, and social studies.  The other 10 credits come through other required courses and electives. Students seeking the Honors Diploma are expected to take the highest course offerings allowed in the Stonecreek program. To that end, students earning this diploma must complete at least one AP course in each of the following areas:  math, English, social sciences, science, foreign language, and one elective area.

At the Honors Diploma level, students are expected to complete 4 years of English composition and literature study, at least one of which must be at the AP level.  In Math, students at this level must complete Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra II in addition to one math AP course; this generally requires completing Algebra during middle school (8th grade year at the latest).  In science, all students are required to take biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as at least one AP-level science course.   For social science, all Honors Diploma candidate students must take 4 years of history including world and US history, at least one credit of which must be at the AP level.  All students at Stonecreek are required to take life skills courses, including health, applied math, and carer planning. Students must take 4 sequential years of a foreign language, one of which must be at the AP level, as well as complete one credit worth of fine arts in addition to electives.
