Meet Coach Nathaniel Bray, Ph.D.

8887197Hello all.  My name is Nathaniel Bray, and while I am not a full-time teacher at Stonecreek, I am a committed volunteer. Since graduating from Harvard in Biology and then Vanderbilt with my Masters and doctorate in higher education, I have dedicated my life to working to improve education for students in this state and across the country. I focus a great deal of my professional work on college students, access, and readiness for college with over 20 publications and various national and international conference presentations. The level of preparation and capital we provide students at a young age can make a world of difference for their long-term potential. As a parent and tutor, I have seen the power of the multi-age classroom strategy developed by Maria Montessori and the gains it can make among students who are allowed to truly work to their potential. That is the type of environment I am excited to be a part of at Stonecreek.

Thanks to my two girls, who both attend Stonecreek, I have coached robotics for area youth for ten years, starting at the Jr. FLL level before coaching FL and now FTC for high school students.   I have served for the past six years as the Central Alabama Regional Director and Event Manager for the FIRST LEGO League (FLL).

Thanks to our parent volunteers, we have teams participating at three levels of FIRST robotics. The Lower Elementary

students participate in the Jr. FIRST LEGO League (JR. FLL). Upper Elementary – middle school students participate in the FIRST LEGO Robotics League.  High school students compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge.  All three levels have won regional and/or state level awards over each of our first three seasons!  Additionally, Stonecreek hosts the annual Central Alabama Regional Qualifier for FIRST FLL.

Stonecreek’s robotics teams have earned a total of 17 regional and state awards during the 2013-2016 seasons.
